Is your wardrobe in need of a revamp for the upcoming year? Let’s spotlight our dapper Brisbane men first and look at suits for work in 2015.
First up in the Suit-able series, some important ground rules when setting out to buy a new suit:
‘Sale’ is a dangerous word in Suitland. Buy less and pay more. A great suit will last years and give you a tremendous return on investment when you look at how many times you can wear it and how great it makes you feel every time you suit-up. A cheap suit is usually pretty obvious as such. It will fail quickly and probably at an extremely inopportune moment. Button popping off in a job interview = awkward.
Always get the suit fitted. If you can’t resist buying off-the-rack at least get the suit fitted afterwards at Alter-Ego clothing alterations. A slightly ill-fitting suit is glaringly obvious when compared to other garments. The margin of error in suit fits is miniscule. A much better plan is to come in to Alter-Ego and let us customize a bespoke suit to your exact measurements.
Choose timeless patterns and cuts. It’s easy to get lost in the journey of buying a new suit. The heady aromas and supple textures of superfine wools can make a man giddy. You need to rise above the temptation of the thick pinstripe and bold pinstripe. Pass over the tempting allure of the flannel and alternative fabrics and get yourself a classic. Colour wise go with French Navy or a Charcoal hue to optimise the versatility of the suit. If you have a slimmer build opt for broad lapels and one vent. If you’re more of a Rocky or John Candy kind of guy get thinner lapels and two vents for the most flattering look.
