Here at Alter-Ego Brisbane we are often blessed to be a part of a bride’s wedding journey. Whether we are designing and making a wedding dress from scratch, or altering a bridal gown bought off the rack or handed down with love and history, we usually come on board the wedding supply team pretty early on in the planning process. Then across multiple consultations and fittings, and finally with wedding dress storage post the big day, we get a wonderful insight into the journey that not many others do.
So after many years designing, altering, repairing and storing important garments for brides and grooms and mothers and bridesmaids and groomsmen and flowergirls, we’ve heard a thing or two that we thought we’d pass on to you to make your wedding journey as fun and stress free as it can be.

Dress – This is the ideal time to think about the style of dress you want to wear. Some brides actually design their wedding theme around their dress style. Do you want a romantic, vintage, modern or bohemian wedding dress? Set a budget for the dress. A common rule of thumb is 10% of the wedding budget.

Dress – You should aim to order your dress now if you are having it made for the occasion. This allows enough time for us to order in the fabric and any extras such as beading, and for all the subsequent fittings that take place before you walk down the aisle.
Skin – Cleanse twice a day, exfoliate twice a week and use sunscreen!
Teeth – You may want to consider a teeth-whitening treatment. There are all kinds of options from DIY to a multi-month professional program.

Dress – Schedule a fitting at Alter-Ego. Bring along mum, your sister or an honest friend so you can request any design updates early enough before the wedding to get them done without stress. Don’t forget to bring in the undergarments and shoes you plan to wear on the day of the wedding.

Dress – Your second fitting will likely concentrate on getting the finalized design fitting perfectly so that you can move comfortably. If your dress requires bustling or has complicated straps, it’s a good idea to bring along your maid of honour or whomever you plan on getting help from to get dressed on the day so they can practice and get a few tips us to make it easy on the day.
Feet – If you are wearing an open style shoe you’ll definitely want your feet in the best shape they can be. A couple of pedicures before the big day will get them looking and feeling their best.
Hands – Test the manicure finish you want to rock at the main event.
Hair – Get a trim to ensure healthy hair on your wedding date. If you can lay off styling tools for a month before hand your hair will thank you.
